Karnataka, a state in southern India, is renowned for its illustrious history and lively celebrations. There is a large variety of state holidays, bank holidays, and limited holidays for state government workers in this state. Holidays that are widely observed in Karnataka Public holidays in Karnataka occur often throughout the year. These days off are observed to honour landmarks in the state’s past, such as the birthday of Tipu Sultan, the state’s founding monarch. Republic Day (January 26), Mahaveer Jayanti (April 17), Independence Day (August 15), and Diwali are all recognised as holidays in Karnataka that year (November 4th). The Hindu holidays of Uttarayana Punyakala (January 15), Makara Sankranti Festival (January 15), Basava Jayanthi/Akshaya Tritiya (April 23), and Naraka Chaturdashi (November 12) are not included because they fall on Sundays. Neither are the Buddhist holidays of Mahalaya Amavasya (October 14) and Khutub-E-Ramzan (April 22) and Maharshi Valmiki Javanthi (October 28) because
Every State agency will be closed on legal holidays. Still, division heads will have to figure out how to get pressing projects done. Members of the Muslim Fraternity who are employed by the government may be granted a holiday on the date of observance if one of their festivals does not fall on the date originally stated.
Sunday, September 3, 2023, Tula Sankramana on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, and Hurthi Festival on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, have all been designated as municipal holidays in Kodagu District. The Education Department’s Commissioner of Public Instructions will issue a separate calendar of holidays.
Employees of the State Government who have received advance clearance from the appropriate body awarding Casual Leave may take up to two additional restricted holidays in 2023 in addition to the General Holidays.
Karnataka’s state government also provides its employees with a list of prohibited holidays. These holidays are celebrated so that workers can take time off from their regular tasks and recharge their batteries. Guru Purnima (July 11), Raksha Bandhan (August 21), and Dussehra (November 3) are three of the holidays in 2023 that state government employees in Karnataka would be prohibited from working (October 19th). Ambedkar Jayanthi, nor is Swarna Gowri Vrata (18.09.2023) Monday included because it is a General Holiday for Varasiddhi Vinavaka Vrata, nor is Ananta Padmanabha Vrata (28.09.2023) Thursday included because it is a General Holiday for Eid-Milad.
Karnataka, like many other states, has a calendar of official holidays that are celebrated by the banking sector. Banks and their workers take advantage of these days off to relax and recharge. Good Friday (April 2), Eid ul-Fitr (May 13), Ganesh Chaturthi (August 11), and Christmas Day (2023) are all official holidays in Karnataka (December 25th). Each and every one of the state’s financial institutions recognises these days off as mandatory.

The first of April, 2023, will be a bank holiday as commercial and cooperative banks close their books for the day. Local Holidays for Kodagu District only will be observed on September 3 (Sunday), October 18 (Wednesday), and November 28 (Sunday) of 2023 for Kail Muhuruth, Tula Sankramana, and the Huttari Festival, respectively (Tuesday).
