This unforeseen development has generated immense perplexity and dismay among countless parents eagerly anticipating their children’s admission into the school.

Parents eagerly anticipating the registration process for their 5-year-old children are currently unable to do so. Conversely, parents of 6-year-old children seem to be unaware of this situation, leading to a state of confusion. Numerous individuals impacted by this matter sought legal recourse to challenge the stipulation requiring them to be six years old. However, the Delhi Court dismissed their plea, declining to entertain it. Nevertheless, the government promptly issued a directive in response.

New Age Rules in NEP 2020 in Kendriya Vidyalaya School: The Central Government has asserted that the New Age Rules, as proposed in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and the subsequent norms established by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), have resulted in revisions to the age requirements for admission into Class 1. Specifically, the minimum age criterion has been amended to 6 years, while the maximum age limit will be set at 8 years, starting from the academic year 2022-23.

The registration dates for class 1 students in all Kendriya Vidyalaya schools have been revised twice in compliance with court rulings. This has presented a notable circumstance for all qualifying candidates, specifically children who have turned 6 years old and are currently enrolled in the 1st grade at any educational institution. The question arises: how can they determine if they are eligible for admission into class 1 at a Kendriya Vidyalaya school? To accommodate these applicants, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has consistently extended the registration period. As a result, the registration process for the academic year 2021-22 now spans one and a half months.

There is no age restriction for admission to Class XI provided the student is seeking admission in the year of passing the Class X examination. Similarly, there will be no upper & lower age limit for admission to class XII provided there has been no break in the continuous study of the student after passing class XI.
