NEET : Section 10D of Indian Medical Council Act, 1956
Section 10D of Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 prescribes conducting of a uniform entrance examination namely National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) to all medical educational institutions at undergraduate and post-graduate level.
The Central Government has received request from State Government of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu to exempt students from appearing in NEET for UG/PG medical admissions. However, the provisions of the IMC Act for conducting NEET apply across the country without any exemption.
The request has been received from the State Governments of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra for reducing of cut-off marks of NEET PG and the same are under consideration.
As informed by National Board of Examinations, the number of candidates appeared and qualified in NEET –PG-2017 held in December, 2016 are 1,16,388 and 64,139 respectively. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) informed that 7,31,223 candidates appeared in NEET-UG-2016 and 4,09,477 qualified the exam. The State wise list is enclosed at Annexure-I. It is also informed that 11,35,104 candidates registered for NEET-UG-2017. State wise list is enclosed at Annexure-II.
