What is ITI?
Industrial Training Institutes are constituted under the Directorate General of Training (DGT) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
ITIs provide training to jobs specific to a particular trade. Their idea is to bridge the gap between demand and supply of skilled technicians. Hence, students are exposed to actual work-skill and are trained practically.
Any student who is looking for a job after completing the 8th or 10th or 12th standard can look up for ITI courses in India. Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) courses mainly focus on short term industrial work and train for various trade jobs. It is the go-to course for vocational education. Training periods range from 6 months to 2 years. After completing the training, trainees have to write the All India Trade Test (AITT). Trainees who pass receive the National Trade Certificate (NTC).
There are about 130 specializations from carpentry work to electrical engineering to fashion, which is given below.

Pros of ITI courses
Indian society is obsessed with jobs that are conventionally high-respected and high-paying jobs that are secure. But not every student has the same set of skills. Being a technician or a mechanic is very much respected in foreign countries, than in India. These types of skilled laborers are necessary. So, doing ITI courses are never the end of the world. The benefits of doing these courses are :
- The lesser time period of studying
- Immediate job opportunity
- Earning at a young age
Job opportunities After ITI
Once trainees finish their training (which takes about 6 months to 2 years depending upon the course), they have to clear the AITT exam (All India Trade Test) to qualify for employment opportunities. They will receive the National Trade Certificate (NTC). They can apply for jobs that they were trained for, or jobs that are closely related to their degree, government or private.
