Scheme of Kendriya Vidyalayas (Central Schools): 2nd Pay Commission Recommended to set up the Scheme to Transferable CG Employees
The Scheme of Kendriya Vidyalayas (Central Schools) was approved in November 1962 by the Govt. of India on the recommendations of the Second Central Pay Commission. It recommended that the Government should develop a scheme to provide uninterrupted education to the wards of transferable Central Government employees.
Consequently, Central School Organization was started as a unit of the Ministry of Education (Now Ministry of Human Resource Development) of the Govt. of India. Initially, 20 Regimental Schools, then functioning at places having large concentration of defence personnel, were taken over as Central Schools during the academic year 1963-64.
The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan was registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act (XXI of 1860) on 15th December 1965. The primary aim of the Sangathan is to provide, establish, endow, maintain, control and manage the Central Schools (Kendriya Vidyalayas) located all over India and abroad. The Government of India wholly finances the Sangathan.
Over the years, the number of Kendriya Vidyalayas steadily increased to 1128 as on 31.03.2016.
