There is a bifurcation of ‘Aided’ and ‘Self-supporting’ in every college. Aided courses, as the name suggests, are aided by the government, hence making the fee very less. Self-supporting or Self-finance means there is no support given by the government financially and students have to pay the whole entire fee. The fee in self-supporting is usually 10 times more than the fee in Aided courses, making it evident that Aided courses are much sought after, considering the same level of education and academic experience.
There is quite a difference between aided and self-supporting streams that a college student cannot deny. The most obvious one is the timings. At Ethiraj College, classes begin at 8 a.m. and end at 1.30 p.m. There is a half an hour lunch break from 11 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Whereas in self-supporting, the classes start at 11.30 a.m. and end at 5 p.m., lunch break from 1.30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Each department is different in its own way. If you are a student who is reading this, find people who study/studied in this college and do have a talk with them. The Aided courses offered in Ethiraj College for Women are:
