    OROP Armed Forces Arrears 2022

In accordance with the One Rank One Pension policy, the Union Cabinet, which is chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has authorized a pension adjustment that will take effect on July 1, 2019, for retired members of the armed forces and their family pensioners (OROP). The pensions of previous retirees would be recalculated using an average of the minimum and maximum pensions received by retirees from the Defense Forces in 2018 who had held the same rank and had the same amount of time in service.

This amendment applies to members of the Armed Forces who have retired up until the 30th of June in 2019, with the exception of those who retired as premature (PMR) retirees as of the 1st of July in 2014. More than 25.13 million people currently receiving pensions from the Armed Forces, as well as their family members, would be eligible for benefits (including around 4.52 lakh new beneficiaries). People who have incomes that are significantly higher than average will have their pensions safeguarded. Family pensioners, such as war widows and senior citizens with disabilities, would also be eligible for the payment. Family pensioners would also be eligible for the payment.

The arrears will be paid up in a total of four semiannual payments. The one-time payment will be made to all family pensioners, including those who are receiving the Special, Liberalised Family Pension and those who have been awarded the Gallantry Award.

At a discount rate of 31% for dearness relief, the yearly cost of implementing the modification is anticipated to be around Rs 8,450 crore (DR). On the basis of DR at 17% for the period from the 1st of July 2019 to the 30th of June 2021 and 31% for the period from the 1st of July 2021 to the 31st of December 2021, it has been anticipated that the arrears will exceed Rs 19,316 crore from the 1st of July 2019 to the 31st of December 2021. According to the relevant dearness alleviation, the arrears for the period beginning on July 1, 2019, and ending on June 30, 2022, total roughly 23,638 crore rupees. These expenses are in addition to those already incurred for the ongoing OROP.

On November 7, 2015, the government released a policy letter that implemented OROP for employees of the Defense Forces and family pensions beginning July 1, 2014. This change took effect immediately. According to the policy statement, the pension would undergo periodic reevaluation in the future at the frequency of once every five years. Following the introduction of OROP, around 57,000 billion rupees had been spent annually at a rate of 7,123 billion rupees over the course of eight years.

Beginning on July 1, 2019, the following is a rough estimate of the rank-based increase in service pension that will be provided by OROP:

    OROP-2 Approval

The Union Cabinet Committee gave its approval for the modification to the pension that would be implemented under the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme for military personnel and family pensioners on December 23, 2022. This approval was given for the purpose of implementing the modification to the pension.

    OROP: What’s New?

The Union Cabinet Committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the second OROP modification for armed services pensioners and family pensioners on December 23, 2022.

The OROP will be welcomed by whom?

According to the most current OROP statement, the basic pension for retired family pensioners and military personnel won’t change until June 30, 2019. (apart from those who began early retirement on July 1, 2014). More than 25 lahks older individuals will benefit from the One Rank One Pension (OROP) pension overhaul, according to PIB research.

How should retired military personnel modify their OROP pension?

The OROP pension will be modified based on the average of the minimum and maximum pensions for people with the same rank and length of service for the entire year of 2018. The Central Government issued the OROP pension policy letter on November 7, 2015, and the first OROP pension modification for Defense pensioners and family pensioners took effect on July 1, 2014.

When will the OROP 2 back pay be made available?

According to a PIB news release dated 23.12.2022, arrears will be paid in four six-monthly installments. All family pensioners, including those receiving the Special/Liberalized Family Pension and Gallantry Award Winners, will get their back salary in one lump sum.

How is DA calculated when a pension is reevaluated for an OROP?

According to the PIB report, arrearages will be computed for the period beginning on 1 July 2019 and concluding on 30 June 2022. The price will fall by 17% between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2021, as well as July 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021. You might assume that 31% of DR will be overdue. From January 1, 2022, through June 30, 2022, the DR will be 34%.
