Budget Allociation for Sainik Schools
Sainik Schools
Sainik Schools get funds from three sources viz., Ministry of Defence, State Governments and fee from parents. Ministry of Defence is providing financial assistance to all Sainik Schools for infrastructure development, IT training, additionality towards pay & allowances, NDA incentive, defence scholarship etc.
State Governments provide financial support for maintenance of infrastructure, scholarships and grant-in-aid for special requirements. Fee paid by the parents varies from School to School as it fluctuates based on the amount of scholarship provided by the States. Fee structure of the Schools has not been revised since 2010 which is widening the gap between income received from tuition fee and expenditure towards pay & allowances and pensions of the staff.
Details of financial assistance provided by the Central Government and State Governments to various Sainik Schools during the last three years are given in Annexure-I & II respectively. In case of a shortfall, Sainik Schools approach respective State Governments to make up the deficit. In addition, Ministry of Defence also take up such matters with the concerned State Governments.
