Hey there! If you’re looking to enroll your child in Tamil Nadu schools through the Right to Education (RTE) program, you might want to know that the admission process for the academic year hasn’t started yet. But don’t worry, it’s expected to begin in mid-April 2023, both online and offline.
Just so you know, the cut-off date for RTE admission in LKG and Class-1 is August 1st, 2023. If you’re applying for LKG admission, your child should have been born between August 1st, 2019 and July 31st, 2020. And if you’re looking to enroll your child in Class-1, they should have been born between August 1st, 2017 and July 31st, 2018.
Tamil Nadu RTE 2023-24 Admission
The Tamil Nadu RTE Admission process for the academic year 2023-24 is now open! As per the Free and Compulsory Education Rights Act of 2009, section 12(1)(c), 25% of seats are reserved for economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups in private unaided schools, except for minority schools.
TN RTE 2023-24 Admission Last Date
Parents who are interested can apply to schools of their choice until May 18, 2023 (expected), for admission to LKG or first standard. Applications received before this date will be examined for acceptance. To know the status of your application, visit the official website (tnschools.gov.in), where the list of accepted applications and reasons for rejection will be published on May 21, 2023, at 5:00 pm (tentative).

How to Apply RTE Admission 2023-24 in TN?
To apply for LKG admission under this RTE scheme, the child must have been born between August 1, 2016, and July 31, 2017. For other grades, the child must have been born between August 1, 2018, and July 31, 2019. Along with the application form, parents must submit documents to the respective regional office, which includes a birth certificate, category certificate, caste certificate, income certificate establishing an annual income of less than Rs. 2 lakhs for economically weaker sections, and residential certificate. You can submit the application form in person or through any other means of communication.
