How to get class 1 admission to KV School?
There is no denying the fact that Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is the largest central government institution that provides the best education at the lowest prices possible. In India, Kendriya Vidyalaya is the first school of choice for parents when they start searching for a school to get their children admitted to in Class 1. The proof of this is in the fact that the schools receive lakhs and lakhs of applications each year!
The expectation is that once you get your child admitted to class I, you don’t have to worry about anything for the next 12 years until the kid completes class XII. Also, world-class education is available for a very low fee. This makes Kendriya Vidyalaya a beautiful perspective for typical middle-class parents. This is also why the queues are long at the time of admission.
Confusions regarding Class I admissions in 2022-2023: It was in the midst of plenty of confusion that the Class I admissions for the year 2022-2023 were completed and the academic year began at the Kendriya Vidyalaya schools all over the country. Parents found themselves clueless about the new guidelines on age limits coming into effect this year. The Central Government had raised the minimum age for admission from the previous five years to six this time. Many parents were disappointed with this decision. Some even went to the courts to challenge this decision. The Centre had announced that the minimum age limit for Class 1, under the NEP 2020, had been increased to 6+ from the 2022-2023 academic year onwards.
Age limit raised to 6 to 8 years for Class I in KV
Eager parents were in for a shock when they came to know of the change in the age limits, on the KVS website. The qualifying age for Class I was increased from 5 to 6 years this time. This resulted in the disqualification of lakhs of five-year-old kids who were seeking admission to Class I.
Since the parents of 6-year-olds were not aware of the new age norms, they didn’t apply either, and this resulted in comparatively low admission applications this year for Class I. Also, most parents were not aware of the fact that admissions were open for Class I for students up to eight years of age. As a result, the application deadline was extended twice. Despite this, the 2022-2023 academic year has clocked the least number of admissions for Class I in recent times. As a result, securing admission to Class I was comparatively very easy for those who had applied!
Multiple KV Admission Quotas Cancelled
Similarly, the Parliamentarian quota for admissions has been canceled. Also canceled are quotas that were available for various bureaucrats. There is no denying the fact that it had greatly benefitted ordinary folks. Most parents have welcomed this decision.
Important Dates for the 2023-2024 KV Admissions
The admissions for the next academic year, 2023-2024, are expected to begin in the month of March 2023. Official announcements on admissions are expected in the last week of February. An exclusive website is already in place for this. New students can register their names on this website. Students who registered their names last year do not have to register themselves again. A deadline of more than two weeks shall be given to all the students. Parents must necessarily register the names of their wards, along with appropriate certificates and documents by then.
The notion that only Central Government employees can admit their children to Kendriya Vidyalaya schools is wrong. Admissions are open for all under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. the child’s age and the school’s proximity to the place of residence are the main criteria.
KVS Admission Procedure for 2023-2024 Class I
Admissions for all the Kendriya Vidyalaya schools take place on the same website, on specific days mentioned. Notifications and instructions shall be made available on the official Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan website (https://kvsangathan.nic.in/). The first step in securing admission to Class I is to register the names of the wards on the admission portal. The registration process, which usually remains open for nearly 20 days, is the most crucial one. All the necessary documents must be provided at the time of registration. The parents must also ensure that their registration is approved. Any errors during registration can be rectified later. After verifying the documents, the registration details are forwarded to the appropriate schools. Prior to selecting the candidates based on the lottery system, the applicants will be asked to go to the appropriate schools and verify if their names are on the application lists.
Lottery Results for Class I Admission in KV 2023-24
All Kendriya Vidyalaya school administrators will conduct the ‘Draw of Lots’ lottery draw to select the candidates for class 1 admission. A nominated body will create with the parents of the applicant. The committee will conduct the draw for all categories including RTE. The event of the lottery draw will be streaming live on YouTube of the respective KV schools for transparency! The results of the candidate’s name will display on the Notice Board of the respective schools. And also the selection list (Merit list) will upload on their official website in the form of a PDF file.
Priority is always given to the wards of army personnel and Central Government staff who get frequently transferred. The students who applied under the RTE are chosen on a lottery basis. The lotteries are conducted in the presence of the parents. This is known as the lottery results. In a class of 40 students, the first 10 spots are filled by the lottery system. Therefore, applications from SC/ST/EWS/BPL/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently-abled shall all be considered.
Seats are allocated in the following manner, for Class I students
- 25 percent of students under RTE
- 15 percent for SC
- 7.5 percent for ST
- 27 percent for OBC

Central Government is given a spectacular priority to ‘Single Girl Child’ in KVS admission. The SGC (Single Girl Child) category means the parents have only a girl child to the parents, with no other siblings. In this priority includes twin girl children also. SGC category children must submit an affidavit certifying that the child is a single girl child at the time of admission.
